Even Wikipedia’s disambiguation page for spiritualism doesn’t give space to this increasingly prevalent understanding of Spiritualism as spirituality outside organized religion. When I think “Spiritualism,” I think seances, mediums in turbans, table tapping, and ectoplasm. I recall once that caused a little misunderstanding when one of my clients told me she was “a staunch believer in Spiritualism,” but her beliefs were a blend of Native American and Eastern mysticism.

The “church” that I used to go to is one that I often referred to as “spiritualist” because readings were a part of the weekly services and because the principles were based on the belief that all people have the potential to be “psychic” in some way (that’s in a nutshell.) It was/is actual an “Interfaith” fellowship and does not advertise as “Spiritualist” so I don’t know if I was wrong or if that definition is not as narrow as it was.

That’s exactly why you spent so much time reading books. They’re still the best form of information around so you can come to your own conclusions not someone elses.

I have the “spiritualism” symbol tattooed on my lower part of my neck/upper back(didn’t know it ment that until now LOL). I’ll post a picture of it tomorrow as it’s bed time LOL
