How does my front page look to you?
Two people have noticed something wonky about the script on my
front page. I don’t see it here, and have not made any changes
except some additions to my left module. What do you see?
Any suggestions?I had a heavy “fibro” day yesterday,
spilling things, tripping and falling, more typos than usual. I
spent the entire day at the keyboard doing a tough job I’d agreed to,
and when the day was over I felt poleaxed. The mess in here from all the recently acquired unsorted junk is making
it harder than usual to move around. I get a little bit of it
sorted and put away now and then, but that process isn’t even keeping
up with the usual entropy. A growing mess and diminishing
capacity to deal with it add up to gloomy feelings.Add to that a balky fire in the woodstove and a chilly morning, and you
get this clear picture of me going back and crawling under the covers.UPDATE:
Now it is four people seeing things extending waaay out to the right,
text not wrapping. I still don’t see anything like that. On
my screen it looks just as it usually does. So, techies, how can
that be? What can I do?

Since yesterday, it shows for me with text scrolling way out to the right. So I have to move the page right to left & back, over and over to read each sentence. It’s not wrapping the text. But if I open an entry to comment, the entry looks normal.
Whoo — yes. Your entries are tabbed waaaaay in to the right and we have to scroll back and forth to read everything.
I see the same thing the above commenters see. I don’t know how to tell you to fix it though. :/
I just see the left module being about the same size as the text area but I don’t have to scroll back and forth to read it.
i’ve had to scroll back and forth alot in the past, but not currently. this fits my browser perfectly.
it totally scrolls to the right no text wrapping when I visit the front page… but in the comments page its all good….. strange hey?
I posted a comment on the blog in question – you added an update with a pasted quote a few days back. The quote contained some formatting that screwed up the page. Does it every time!
Yeah–the text looks that way for me, too. I wish I could offer some sort of guidance, but I’m hopeless when it comes to computers. I hope you can figure it out…

I hate to say it, because I don’t know how to fix it, but “me too!”
Perhaps we can contact John or one of the Xanga team………. let me see if I can get some answers there.
Just noticed two things:
1. My comment didn’t space as it should have (I had para marks in there)
2. I’m occasionally getting beta.xanga.com as the site address. Example, this page is http://www.xanga.com/item.aspx?user=SuSu&tab=weblogs&uid=237769909&nextdate=last but sometimes I get http://beta.xanga.com/item.aspx?user=SuSu&tab=weblogs&uid=237769909&nextdate=last – maybe they’re working on that?
SuSu.
Try this solution I found in the help section:
http://help.xanga.com/sitedisappeared.htm
It seems to be closest to what you’ve identified as your problem.
My site disappeared! How can I get it back?
If you’ve put some bad HTML code into either an entry on your site, or your Look and Feel… it can prevent the page from loading. This can make it seem as if your entire site has disappeared!
Rest assured, your site is still safe and sound on Xanga. You can easily remove the offending code, using Xanga’s “Safe Mode”.
Here’s how it works:
ENTER SAFE MODE
In Safe Mode, you can see the HTML source of the item that is causing problems:
<LI>http://www.xanga.com/Private/safemode.asp
Once you’ve identified the code you’ve just added, you can delete it and your site should return to normal
RETURNING TO YOUR SITE
To return to your site from the safe mode page, click the link to your site at the top right of the safe mode page. From there, you will be taken back to your private site. You can sign out normally from there then.
A FEW NOTES IF YOU CAN’T FIND THE BAD CODE
<LI>CHECK YOUR HEADER CODE
A common problem is the header code. So copy and paste the header code on to another application (make sure you save it). Then delete that code from the safe mode page and return to your site (you can click the upper right link to your site in the safe mode page).
Give it a chance to refresh or refresh the site yourself. If it works, then it was the header code. If it doesn’t, then you can resubmit the code at a later time since you have saved it.
<LI>SOMETIMES IT’S BEST TO BREAK IT DOWN AND THEN BUILD IT UP AGAIN:
If you’re not sure what the problem is then the best thing to do is to go to your “safe mode” and from there you can edit or delete all the features that you may have added to your site.
First, make sure to copy and save the codes into another application like Word or Notepad. Then return to your site (at the top of that safe mode page, you can click the link back to your site) and make sure that the site works fine by itself.
If it does. then resubmit the codes back into your site one at a time until you find a code that breaks the site.
It’s really funked up!~
Hi Kathy,
I started seeing the text on your front page extending too far to the right yesterday, as well. It coincided with me updating my operating system from Windows 2000 to XP. Maybe something in your coding doesn’t jive with XP for some reason?
Just a shot in the dark …
rosabelle
p.s. For some reason, the text looks fine when your log entry is displayed on the comments page. Maybe you can ferret out the problem by comparing the code from both pages.
p.p.s. Hope you feel better soon!
I seldom go to your front page, but I tried it just now, your left module is wider than usual, and I do have to scroll a bit to see your entry properly, but not back and forth. If I move to the right, I can see the entry just fine, but your left module is half covered. Here on the comment page, while it looks normal, I still have to scroll it, losing half your left module here too. Not sure if this gives you a clue or not. Good luck.
Oh, I see it too – but I don’t have any advice, I’m sorry! It looks like your logo and photos are posting very far left which is maybe stretching out the page?
I was viewing the source code and it seems that you didn’t close your centering in your header. You closed the “P” and the “Font” and everything else … but not the “center”. So everything is getting all weird on you.
Then, your left hand column is larger then usual – but that is because it is accomodating the pictures you have there. If you want to resize it you just need to add “width” and “height” to your “img src” code.
If you have further questions about this feel free to e-mail me …
It’s okay now.
Shit. No it’s not…but it’s fixed on the comments page.
