  • Spooky Music

According to fatgirlpink, everybody’s got a song running in their heads today.  Here’s mine:

    Ghost Riders in the Sky

words and music by Stan Jones

    (Lyrics and Chords)

An old cowboy went ridin’ out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
Plowin’ through the ragged skies, and up a cloudy draw

    / Am – C – / / Am – - – / F – - – Am – - – /

Their brands were still on fire, and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders comin’ hard, and he heard their mournful cry

Yipie i-oh, yipie i-ay! Ghost herd in the sky

    / C – - – Am – - – F – Dm – Am – - – /

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred their shirts all soaked with sweat
They’re ridin’ hard to catch that herd, but they ain’t caught ‘em yet’
‘Cause they’ve got to ride forever on that range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire, as they ride on, hear their cry

Yipie i-oh, yipie i-ay!  Ghost riders in the sky

As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name
“If you want to save your soul from hell a riding on our range
Then cowboy change your ways today, or with us you will ride
Tryin’ to catch the devil’s herd, across these endless skies”

Yipie i-oh, yipie i-ay!  Ghost riders in the sky
    Ghost riders in the sky
    Ghost riders in the sky

    On a totally unrelated topic:

    The Month After Christmas…
    (anonymous)

    ‘Twas the month after Christmas,
    and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I’d nibbled, the eggnog I’d taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber).
    I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I’d never said, “No thank you, please.”
As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt—
I said to myself, as I only can
“You can’t spend a winter disguised as a man!”
So–away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
“Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
    I won’t have a cookie–not even a lick.
I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won’t have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore—
But isn’t that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

you noticed how many references to tunes people are making?  the devil was in charge of the music in heaven.  did you know that?  he’s up to no good today.   he should join me for a dance in the snow….

  • did you ever hear the outlaws do that? … a little harder rocking than the sons of the pioneers or whoever they were

  • Man, I haven’t heard that song in years! I had to look up the tune… doesn’t say much for my music memory.

That poem is funny but too close to the truth! I’m glad to say that I’m finding most rich foods too rich, and sweet foods too sweet. My cravings disappeared while I was sick I guess. At least illness gets me something Makes it a good time to sort out my diet failings.

I hope you’re feeling a bit better this week

  • I love Ghost Riders! I may copy that to do my own version… Thanks

  • that song always makes me think of my dad.

Today I have “Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me” by U2 running through my head. Mostly because I had a strange dream last night with that as the soundtrack.

  • I posted the past life privately, I’ll call you when the phone recharges to get the next client.  God, I am such a mess today. . . . oh well, one more stop after this. . . .

  • Just remembered, I owe you a quote, ran out to the car–okay, limped–to get the book. . . . .

“Truthfulness in statements. . .is a human being’s duty to everyone, however great the disadvantage to him or another human being that may result from it.”–Immanuel Kant, “On a Supposed Right to Lie from Altruistic Motives”

  • I remember that song the way Johnny Cash sang it. I haven’t heard it in ages!

  • I often wake up with a song running thru my head.

    Today, I did not.

However … I did visit fatgirlpinks place today and it sent me off on a tangent of sorts.
    Then I came here.
Then I posted my comment.  And I think it’s rather odd that we were both influenced by her, albeit not the same day or in the same way … but I think there might be something said about synchronicity.  Yesh.
    Happy New Year, btw.
