  • Doug has been saying we need a new keyboard.  He is lobbying for a wireless one, probably so he can sit comfortably in Couch Potato Heaven and play the PS2 while he posts to his chats.  He posts and plays at the same time now, but has to sit here at the computer desk and use the controller extension cord.  How he would read the computer monitor from a seat on the sofa, I don’t know.  Maybe he sees the wireless keyboard as a toe in the door toward getting one of those computer interfaces you wear.

I don’t think a new keyboard is coming soon, and if one does become necessary, it probably won’t be wireless because that costs more and makes one more layer of technology to go wrong.  Besides, for me this ergonomic office chair is the most comfortable seat in the house.

I was almost ready to give in and buy a new keyboard when the “e” key started needing an extra hard stroke or two.  Doug had used his canned compressed air to blow out the keyboard and he insisted the key was “worn out.”  AHA!  Gotcha geek-breath:  it’s not broken after all.

I took a pair of fine tweezers and picked a pound or two of cat hair, dandruff, sesame seeds and other fluff from the spaces in, under and around those keys.  Then I blew it out with compressed air and picked out a few more ounces of detritus.  The “e” key works fine now… but the space bar is getting balky.  Hmmm… only eight screws holding the bottom plate on this thing.  Where’s my little phillips?

    “Want a reading?

With me, you have no need to worry that I’m going to predict some scary thing you don’t really want to know.  I don’t do that sort of thing….”

I have posted the entire disclaimer along with instructions on how to request a reading, on my other Xanga site:  KaiOaty.  I will be working on a reading for LuckyStars today.

  • Oh, also about wireless keyboards, we’ve had several the past couple of years, seems most work great for a few months, then are really crappy.  So, in my opinion until they come out with better ones it’d probably be a waste of money anyway..

  • I dont have a wireless keyboard.  If you happen to get one, let us know how you like it.

  • ohhhhh noooooooo….don’t take the bottom plate off!!!  We did that!  You get this hideous pile of what you at first think are pretty Scrabble tiles and then, when the shock clears, you realize it’s all the freaking keys from the keyboard!  (ssst…people at computer stores generally laugh behind your back when you tell them what you did…)

  • oh, my dear susu.. you can take a small pocket knife and pop off the keys on the keyboard and then just wash it with dishsoap or something like that. that should make it work a lot better and you can keep doug quiet for a while.

  • omg I need one of those key board’s, mine is getting crazy.. have a good day..

  • I just got a wireless keyboard (and mouse) a couple of weeks ago. Not much difference… It’s INCREDIBLE to have a mouse with no wire, but I haven’t seen the charm in the wireless keyboard yet. Scored a helluva deal… 30 bucks for the whole unit. As far as Texanflower’s comment goes, my hunch would be the batteries need changed after a few months, which would explain why they don’t work as well after a while…

I’m not concerned about the extra layer of technology (although, I do think it had a small bit to do with my mom not being able to get DSL at her place). The one thing I don’t like is that there are too many gadgets on the wireless. When I hit the caps button, for example, a note pops on my screen telling me that “Caps Lock is on”. I would hope so. That’s why I hit the button!

Anyway, if you *really* decide you need a new keyboard and you *really* don’t want a wireless, shoot me an e-mail. I have at least two keyboards lying around the house not being used.

  • I’m afraid I have become a slave to the wireless laptop.  Also, I find myself doing what I used to do with books.  Getting in bed, lying down, reading til I fell asleep with my face over the book.  Now it’s with Xanga.  Prop my head on a pillow and reading away til I drift off to sleep.

D-, I’ve got to get out more
