  • Turn Your Back On Bush

Richard A. Hollingsworth,  Associate Vice President of Student Affairs for Ohio State University, threatened students who participated in a non-violent protest at President Bush’s commencement address with arrest and expulsion.  If you’d like to express your support or outrage,  his email addy is hollingsworth.1@osu.edu and his office number is 614-292-0307.

Personally, I’d like nothing better than to turn away, stuff my ears, hold my nose and ignore Dubya, but I just don’t trust the man enough to turn my back on him.

  • Hmmm, another bad apple…

Maybe we should volt for no-one next time, dosen’t mater who we volt in and place up there. Power corrupes, and the big Corporations that truely runs the contry. How sad! That a no-name would never be aloud to be President, you have to be rich to play this game of controll. It didn’t start this way, but now it is this way. Or maybe it did? Perhapes its time to change our way of thinking. ” A request for a small Miracl “…

  • Anyone with the intelligence and integrity to be a truly good leader wouldn’t want the job.  The only ones who want power are those who want to abuse it.  The only ones who want leaders are those afraid to take the responsiblity for choosing their own paths.  END OF RANT (for now)

  • Hearing only part of the story is not fair to Mr. Hollingsworth in this case.  Being in Columbus and hearing about the event on a more personal level, I don’t blame him taking this action.  This is the only school to have President Bush give the commencement message.  There were over 40,000 at the school for that one event alone.  You can imagine what security was like.  Having the students protesting on campus was an added burden to the those protecting the president as well as the guests and graduating students.  On top of that, we have one of the nations largest refueling stations just outside of Columbus which makes us a target for terrorism and gives the need for heightened security during events like this.  These students could easily go off campus to do their protesting.  Their message would still get out there.  So for those who read this comment, think twice before emailing or calling to complain.  -Kristy

  • The ideas that Erich Fromm presented in Escape from Freedom are so alien to me that I hardly credited them.  Now I see how right he was.  All around me, I observe people rushing to throw away the constitutional freedoms we’ve fought for and enjoyed.  Terrorism really is an effective tool for social change.

  • The props are NOT for your original blog (Ohio is known for usurping civil rights, so I was not really surprised by the action at OSU)…but rather for your last comment…..terrorism is spawning social change at a frightening pace…..just NOT the social change I had envisioned in my hopeful days…..”when will they ever learn…” lyrics from the past ring true even now….

  • My favorite letter:

Have you lost your mind? I thought you had to possess a bit of intelligence, a modicum of common sense and something of a backbone to reach a position such as yours.

Why did you treat Bush as a special case? Who are you really working for? What infuences your decisions? Apparently money and fear. Yes, one can smell your fear stink all over America.

When it comes time for you to be reviewed and your contract with the school renewed, we’ll all make sure the board does not forget the immature actions you took at this year’s graduation ceremonies.

    Grow up.
