Redoubt Volcano Has Erupted
There have been five eruptions reported between 10:30 last night and 4:40 this morning. The height of the ash cloud (50,000 feet above sea level) and weather patterns, mean that ashfall is expected over the Susitna Valley. Ashfall has been reported at Skwentna, and is predicted for Talkeenta, Willow, and Cantwell. I live between Willow and Talkeetna, and the whole family has appointments at the clinic, between here and Talkeetna, this morning. Greyfox plans to drive up from Wasilla about 8:00. I hope he listens to his radio or turns on his cell phone so he’ll get his voice mail before he leaves.

Oh my. I hope you guys are okay. My inlaws were in Oregon with St. Helen erupted. They say the ash is terrible!
stay safe!!!
And you were the first person I thought of when I saw this on the site. The RSO site at the volcano went offline at 4:20 AM so there is some concern about not knowing what will happen next. Be safe and take care of yourself. (I was one of those who was there for St. Helens and know the problems with predicting how this can go.)
I wish you the best of success is keeping this from being too harmful to your breathing.
You have been in my thoughts since we heard. Stay safe Kathy.
I heard that on the news this morning and thought of you.
ugh, I can’t imagine what the ash will do to someone with Breathing issues. I don’t imagine you can run away from a cloud that big either!!
I do hope you’re ok! Is Anchorage in danger this time? I heard that Alaska Airlines has cancelled today’s flights! Stay safe!
@KarlaandSuperMedic - I am staying in, keeping still, and I won’t go out without my particle mask. I can smell it, and it burns my eyes and throat.
@slmret - AVO says it is still erupting. For as long as it spews ash and gases, any place downwind is in danger, and the winds keep shifting. Monitoring the ash clouds became harder this morning, when the webcam and remote sensors were knocked offline by the explosion.
@SuSu - Do take care — it sounds like staying in and keeping still is the thing to do! Will be watching it and thinking of you for the next few days!
