Tomorrow is Saint Valentine’s Day
According newadvent.org:
At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologies under date of 14 February…The popular customs associated with Saint Valentine’s Day undoubtedly had their origin in a conventional belief generally received in England and France during the Middle Ages, that on 14 February, i.e. half way through the second month of the year, the birds began to pair. Thus in Chaucer’s Parliament of Foules we read:
For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne’s day
Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate. For this reason the day was looked upon as specially consecrated to lovers and as a proper occasion for writing love letters and sending lovers’ tokens.
more HEREThe Old Fart, my lover, spouse, soulmate, professional colleague and partner in crime, who is also an English major and ArmsMerchant, wrote a very personal and intimate Shakespearean sonnet for me a day or two ago when he realized the day was immanent. Today, he published it. In case you missed it, and missed my recommendation of it, here‘s another chance to read it and his author’s notes on it as well as my commentary. Two years ago, I dealt at length with the history and significance of paraskevidekatriaphobia. It’s Hoops Birthday, so Friday the 13th be blessed! Hoop’s has an energy that exudes love most of the time. He’ll walk up and hug me more than anyone in the house and say “I need a hug” when you know he was drawn to give you a hug. I like ArmsMerchant’s sonnet. Gives a loving flow and spans time with his sonnet.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you! R. Hood
my 4 yo was born on friday the 13th and today is her half birthday! i don’t believe for a minute the superstitiousness of friday the 13th or any other one out there. in fact, i feel it was one of the luckiest days of my life to have her come into it!
My birthday is on the 13th… not this one, but a 13th just the same. So… 13 has never held the negative aspect for me… even if it was Friday the 13th. Even if it was my birthday.
Better yet… sometimes my birthday is on Good Friday the 13, lol.
Happy Day that God made =)
bless ya

I don’t believe that Fridays the 13th, per se, are unlucky. But one’s every 13th reocurrence of a Friday the 13th (counting from birth) – better watch out for those!
Not so lovely to martyred on Valanines day.
Hope you have a better day than that!!!
Friday the 13th has always been good for me.
