Down with Snowzilla!
For several years, an Anchoraguan man, Billy Powers, with help from his family, friends and neighbors, has built a big snowman, about the height of a two-story house, in his yard. This year, they were only partway done when city officials said it had to come down. Snowzilla has become internationally famous. The city considered the snowman himself and the traffic he attracted to that residential street, to be public nuisances and safety hazards.
According to the Fort Mill (SC) Times:
Snowzilla in 2005 rose 16 feet. He had a corncob pipe and a carrot nose and two eyes made out of beer bottles.
…When the notices went up, Snowzilla still didn’t have a full torso or head.
“The kids had spent hours and hours of work on it,” Billy Powers said Sunday.
He’s not planning to finish the snowman this year. If he did, he could be arrested.

How big a ‘city’ is this that you can’t allow a little fun? Ridiculous!!
That’s too bad! My in-laws who live in Alaska sent a photo of that last year. I thought it was the greatest thing ever!
How sad!!~
These are the traditions that should be kept.
That’s a hell of a damper on the Christmas spirit right there.
Bah humbug huh? lol
Always a party pooper at the holidays!
Sad that he can’t do it this year, but I can understand the neighbors being upset at the traffic.
@butshebites - Sweetheart, I wouldn’t mind having you for a neighbor. If you looked at those Google pictures, you saw the narrow street and the bumper to bumper cars. What you didn’t see was the drunks pissing in neighbors’ yards, breaking empty bottles on the pavement, gangs drive-by shooting the damned snowman…. The city code compliance people had little choice.
When there is nothing else to do, build a snowman.
