Forget Wet
The steps and packed earth paths that were slimy and slippery with water yesterday, today are even slicker and slipperier with ice.
Last night, the clouds moved out for a while and I saw the first stars I have seen since May, when the sky stopped being dark enough at night to see a star. With the protective overcast gone, warmth was sucked into outer space, and everything froze. Then clouds moved back in so that there will be precious little solar heat today to melt the ice. It could even snow. That would come as no surprise, with precipitation being a nearly everyday thing all summer.
I am ever so glad I had my studded tires put on the car last time I went to town. Doug and I have to go to town again this week.

And you live in Alaska because?
And don’t think I don’t notice that anti-republican shit up there…..
Hoping ur country bears the fruit justly deserved….
Shit.. now I has to post…..
@benevolentMitch - I live in Alaska because it is as far from DC as I can get without emigrating. I am not anti-Republican. I am pro-choice, anti-liar, anti-corruption, and I know Sarah Palin far too well to think she deserves any more power than she already has.
If I forced you to post, it serves you right.
I lied, sorta. Distance from DC is only a small reason I live here. Although they are disappearing fast, this is still the easiest-to-get-to (for me) place where there is still clean air and water, and no crowds of people.
No one appreciates conviction to what is right and wrong more than I do….
If I said never vote with ur heart, but ur soul instead, would you understand?
I feel for and try to undertand the dilemma you American fuckers live with….
Ok!!! No talking politics or religion or sex…..
That leaves……… fishing………… I lost 25 bucks worth of Rappala’s/sp not catching fish a week ago…… That cracks me up….
ice and snow … Alaska is beautiful, but I’d never want to live there.
We’ve had some sundowners lately and our nights have been far warmer than our days here on the California coast. I’ll send warm thoughts your way. I watch both Elephants and Donkeys on 60 mins last night. What the heck? This is it for our nation? (shakes head as usual.)
Even here in Utah it’s colder than usual, and was raining this morning. Sun is out now but the temp is only 58…a wee bit low for this time of year. Possibly more rain this afternoon, they say. Hmph! Not looking forward to ice and snow season. Phoenix is looking good to me! or maybe Mexico.
it has been a cool fall here as well and the talk on the cat boards are that we are in for a bad winter as the fur things are going lots and the breeders are having breeding issues that they swear is indicative of the fact that things don’t reproduce when it puts them in peril….it has warmed up the last couple of days but I really think it is Indian summer
It boggles my mind sometimes when you post about cold and snow and ice when it’s still 70ºF here! For me, it’s a bit of a good thing… It keeps me semi-grateful for ONLY living as far north as I do, as it could always be colder!
Be careful driving even with your studded tires. Don’t get too confident and be careless.
How long have you lived in Alaska? I think I would love it there (even though I am not particularly fond of cold weather – - I think the good would far outweigh the bad).
We got rain here… but it’s still in the mid 80s during the day, so no ice, thank goodness! I’m not ready for all that yet!
Stay warm & dry!
@benevolentMitch - What were you fishing for — trees??
@fairydragonstar - I noticed about a week ago that our cats’ coats are thicker than they have ever been.
@Zipporiah - I have lived in Alaska for 35 years, and learned how to drive on ice and snow in the Rockies before I moved up here.
I want to visit Alaska some day…
Hi, sounds pretty chilly to me. We here in Anaheim Ca. have been experiencing an unusually cool summer. I noticed our gum elm(?) dropping leaves in July. The norm for this tree is end of September. It has been getting dark much earlier (I feel) than years past. Our Summer are typically hot as blazes by August but we just haven’t had that weather . I keep waiting for the other foot to drop and have the 100 degree days come in like November. I too would love to visit Alaska but wouldn’t do so well living there. I do have family up there somewhere maybe…(Anchorage???) Although if I was forced to live in Arizona or Alaska for a year, I would choose Alaska in a heartbeat. I hope you are well, Light and Love Darla
It does seem as if Winter is just around the corner and coming way quicker than it should. Brrr I am not ready for it.
Brrr sounds so cold there. I am happy to hear you got your studded tires put on your car. We get ours put on in November.
Trees are too easy…. Don’t even hav’ta sneak up on ‘em….Ur makin’ fun right?
Ok. Was fishin’ for fish…. I know!…. That’s the easiest ways to lose ur bait…. Will try trees this winter when they is asleep and even easier…..
Oh my god, there is really much useful information here!
