What little things make you happy?
Lots of little things, such as the birdsong I’m hearing now, please me. Many little things such as the season growing warmer and days growing longer, please me and make life easier. Little things like having the current crop of monthly bills paid and a fridge full of food, please and reassure me.
The only thing that can make me happy is my own choice to be happy, to accept that happiness is possible even while in physical discomfort and disability, living in a world of war and sorrow, and that I deserve to be happy. I make me happy. I’m a little thing, but knowing and doing this is a big thing.
I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

Conquering something that’s difficult makes me happy (as in a task…currently learning to use the big lawnmower, which is really intimidating to me.) But most often, yes, it’s the little things that really make me happy. The bright moonlight last night. A flower blooming. The feel of earth. A big dill pickle! haha.
Your second para is really intriguing to me. I was always a naturally happy person, resilient, etc. Easily satisfied, I guess. Difficulties in my life have persisted, though, and the past two years have been crazy hard. I went through a very hard and long depression. It took me ages to even be able to face, or admit, that I ‘might’ be truly and seriously depressed. I got help, and am better, but now I’m coming to the point in life in which the circumstances that hurt are still there, and I’m trying to see that I have a choice. Losing resilience is a big deal, or at least it feels like one. But yeah, when I feel that extra “tug” of joy…like Sunday a week ago, my son and I saw three!!! bluebirds! they were in the high grass, in the rain…like flashes of brilliant blue. We were discussing our family situation (not easy) but seeing the bluebirds, and watching them, gave us both that sense of hushed wonder and joyousness. I think it’s the little wonders like that that keep me going.
thanks for a thought-provoking post!
oh es, you are a big thing, a person with so many facets, so much strength and wisdom!
I’m really glad that you are on Xanga!
excellent………………I may be making progress……………
messing with the twins last week, I commented ” you hurt my feelings”
Their joint comment was “Hey, didn’t you tell us feelings were just a choice?”
God bless ‘em ……. they are listening………….
Excellent answer… we do make our choices, I choose sometimes to be introspective and melachonic… I don’t know why… I think sometime I need to be emotional and then other times I am completely silly with joy.
Great post.
Hugs, Tricia
I love the sound of running water…like in a stream or in a fountain
Today it was an unexpected ice cream sandwich.
i like donkeys,,, one of these days,,,,, hahahahahaha,, what would i do with a donkey?
@mejicojohn - roflmAo My first big belly laugh of the day came from thinking about what you might do with a donkey. Don’t ask.
I like donkeys, too… and mules, more than I like horses or moose.
Lookie here! That’s a pic of my Fiat X1/9, surrounded by the feral burros in Custer State Park, SD. The story the picture illustrates is here.
