  • I’m okay with my name, OKAY!?

I’m not particularly fond of “personalized” mass communication.  In the
olden days, form letters came with blanks where some hapless clerk had
to type in or write in by hand the name or other personalizing
identifiers.  There was no pretense of truly personal communication
    there.

I didn’t feel slighted or insulted.  I have even used form letters to
communicate with my clients.  Some of them resented it, but that was
more because of the content of the letters, I think, than of the
    impersonal nature of the form.

Then along came computers and form letters got slicker and sneakier.
Eventually, we all adjusted to the point where for most of us the rare
appearance of a truly personal letter is more notable than the
    ubiquitous form letters.

Through the magic of cookies and bots and other such marvels of
technology, I’m now assaulted with impersonal uses of my personal
    identifiers at every turn.

Dammit, Xanga!  NO!  I am not tired of having SuSu as my username.  It took some getting used to, I admit.  I was mildly distressed at having to try a gazillion different names before you accepted one, but now I have adjusted.  Susitna Sue from Subarctic Suburbia is who I’m content to be, but I don’t want to have to spell it all out all the time, so SuSu will do.

Now get off my back about it, okay?

  • …seems like we have a common view of ‘cold callers’ and advertising in general.
i don’t appreciate somebody ‘telling’ me what i want or need, if i want or need something i will go looking for it.
like the “new” shreddies ad campaign…makes me think that the advertisers truly believe we are stupid enough to buy in to the “new diamond shaped shreddies”.

  • i know what you mean about the mass ads even on here. i get that ad too and i just ignore it. Like you, i do not want to change who i am .. My name was actually given to me by Master 9 years ago. It is more than just a web name for me. My name on the net is who i am to Master.     Wow, no wonder you shortened your name (who you are) ..that is certainly a tongue twister! i for one am very glad that you go by the shortened version! (giggles)

  • ROFL! I have felt the same way about the little Xanga ad too — it took a lot of thought and time to settle upon Zvanoizu and darn it, I’m sticking with it!

  • I had to laugh at this.  I’ve been contemplating if I should change my LittleEgypt blog name.  The name is taken from the sixties song by the Coasters I think it was.  Anyway, there are some who think I must be Egyptian, Arab and/or.  My other blog names I wouldn’t trade for anything, I like them just fine.  Anyway, I really like the name SuSu.  It makes a nice sound.

Have been following your Iditarod blogs.  That is one event I would love to see rated for me the same as the Winter Olympics.

  •   I just checked out the Welcome Wagon yesterday.  Being the neighborly type, I thought I’d welcome someone.  I clicked on the link and there was Mortgage Figures, so I clicked on comments and wrote. No thank you!  Sneaky devils! Wish I could remember the name, but I release a–holes immediately from my memory.

  • Dear Sir/Madam…

If we change our names, here on Xanga, how will people find us?
Might as well start a new site!

  • LOL _ YES!  And I suppose it’s a good thing that people can change their names if they picked something in a moment of wild drunken revelry that in the cold light seven years later they REALLY wish they hadn’t tattooed on their ass, but it seem that half my SIR has changed their name and it’s starting to make me cranky.  I don’t know who any one IS anymore.  And they all change the looks of their sites so often I can’t go by that either …

I’ll be Q-momi forever (and Mysterri)

  • @pixie_taker -

I think the Xanga gods have taken care of that matter.  The names of those of my subscriptions who have opted to change their names were automatically changed.  It is not the same as starting a new account.

  • I so agree.  I rather like my name and am not about to give it up.  In my senile moments (chuckling), at least i know where my blog is.

  • Since I use the name I was born with, I have no interest in changing mine.  I haven’t seen the ad so I can’t really comment on it.

  •   I am somehow comforted in now knowing that these ‘ads’, or ‘expressions of helpfulness’, depending on the reader I suppose….either way…..I am indeed comforted in the knowledge that they can irritate others as well as myself!!

Thanks for sharing that particular little irritation today with a twist of humor……and also, for your full name disclosure.  I wasn’t aware there was a ‘full one’  to know, but I have actually wondered at the meaning, or origin, of ‘SuSu’ in the past….so another little mystery laid to rest…

You have a tendency to just keep getting more and more interesting….Susitna Sue from Subartic Suburbia…

Oh….one more thing!  Thanks for the constant updates on the iditarod!!  It was great to have your knowledge and experience to guide me through my introductory year!  I can’t wait till next year!!!  lol…I’ll recognize names and even some faces!!!  Thanks again…
