weekly photo challenge – abundance
This week’s subject is suggested by Wingsofdesire.
We have an abundance of abundance. It is everywhere I look. I could have overdone this one, but I restrained myself. Thanks to the richly nutritious frogwater produced by Tadpole Ranch, the new rhubarb I transplanted this spring is huge.
Abundant rainfall has covered the forest floor with berries of many species. These are bunchberries: Cornus canadensis, and they are not quite ripe yet.
Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) is lush, at the peak of its bloom right now.

I miss the giant rhubarb plants we had by our garage- every year they grew taller than we were! The fireweed is gorgeous!
Can you eat bunchberries?
What will you do wit the rhubarb?

Yummy rhubarb, as kids we used to eat the young stalks fresh off the plant, dipped in sugar. I love stewed rhubarb.
Wow you certainly do have an abundance of lovely healthy plants .. great photos for the challenge! Can you eat the berries?

The colors are so lush…truly speaks of abundance.
Great photos!
Lucky you is what I think when I see your photos. Your Rubarb looks wonderful and makes my mouth water. Lovely forest berries, the animals enjoy them along with the birds. Nothing beats beautiful flowers and am sure you have tons of wild ones around you.
Great to be in the midst of all that!
If only there were an abundance of these (and other) edible goodies around the globe.
I love the bright red of the bunchberries. You are lucky to be surrounded by so much nature.
Great photos. On one of our guided hikes this year the Naturalist was teaching the kids all about the flora/fauna (i never get that right) anyhow, they were excited to see the Bunch Berry plant have the berries in your photo…
All the plants he showed us that he called bunch berry bush didn’t have any berries.
As soon as I saw the fireweed I knew you lived in Alaska. A good friend of mine lived up there for a good portion of her childhood and that is the one thing she remembered very clearly.
My very soon-to-be Aussie husband and I (Canadian) will be coming up to Alaska for our honeymoon. We’re taking a cruise ship from Vancouver… I really wanted him to see the BC coast line and I know he really wants to see a moose (I don’t know why).
PS. Do you know if rubarb will gorw well in a pot? I don’t know how well it would do in the ground in the summer here (Adelaide, Australia) since it gets really hot and would most likely need to be moved around in the summer.
Great post for the challenge, I’m trying to catch up reading your stuff but i find i cant stay too long at the comp sitting in the wheelchair,(i threw my self off the moutainside last weekend) I’ll do my best to come by everytime I’m on line and read one post, our house is “all stairs” and its like a NATO operation to get me to the office at the moment
